JAZZ BREW SUNDAY: CHARLIE & BENNY TRIBUTE

This Sunday we’re celebrating the music of Charlie Christian and Benny Goodman.
One of the first great electric guitarists, Charlie Christian helped shape the sound of bebop and cool jazz. Rising to national prominence with Benny Goodman between 1939 and 1941, his playing brought a bold new voice to jazz. The music is quirky, swinging, and endlessly inventive—packed with shifting ideas and tight arrangements that make the most of every moment.
The Musicians:
John Donnelly is a Leeds University graduate with over 30 years’ experience performing, teaching, and composing. A seasoned international session player and a regular presence on the UK jazz scene, he is known for his solid timekeeping and traditional approach, and is often first call for visiting musicians seeking a pickup band in the South West.
Zoe Lambeth is a leading reed player and vocalist specialising in classic and vintage jazz and swing. With a busy performance schedule that includes a long-running residency at the Burgh Island Hotel, she leads several bands including The Vintage Jazz Collective, Men Behaving Tradly, and the Vintage Jazz Trio, and performs regularly with a wide range of ensembles across the UK jazz circuit.
Mike Outram is a guitarist and improviser who has worked with artists including Tim Garland, Donny McCaslin, Till Brönner, and Steven Wilson. He teaches guitar at the Royal Academy, Trinity Laban, and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and runs ElectricCampfire.com, an online jazz guitar community with over 700 members.
