Capernaum (15) – 2018, Lebanon, 126 mins
Director: Nadine Labaki
After running away from his negligent parents, committing violent crime and being sentenced to five years in jail, a hardened, streetwise 12-year-old Lebanese boy sues his parents in protest of the life they have given him. “Capernaum,” is a tale wrenched from real life, going beyond the conventions of documentary or realism. It’s a fairy tale, an opera, a cry of protest and an anthem for resistance.
The film received a 15-minute standing ovation following its premiere at Cannes on 17 May 2018, and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Doors open for fine wines and all manner of drinks at 7pm. Film at 8pm
