Memory proves messy and contested in this perceptive and exquisitely realised treatment of a young woman’s visit to her late father’s extended and affluent family.
Carla Simón provides a sequel of sorts to her debut feature Summer 1993 when she uses her mother’s letters to structure the tale of 18-year-old Marina, whose scholarship to study film can only be unlocked by a copy of her father’s death certificate. Past and present come into dialogue as Marina arrives in Galicia to track down the missing document.
